Eye See You

To say this was one of the hardest photos I ever took, would be a monumental understatement. I was trying to get a decent new shot of myself, and I don't know about any other photographers out there but it is never fun being on the other side of the lens. After I got a few portrait shots I was happy with, I decided to play around a bit while I had everything set up. So I went about trying to take a nice up close shot of my eye, using my lens as normal. It was able to get close, just not close enough. So I had a "brilliant" idea to try the flip around instant macro trick.

I figured if I could get the exact spot found using something that could be reused each time to show me where to put myself, I could possibly pull this off. But it almost seemed like I was chasing something that didn't exist. Each stray turn of the focus ring, each bump of the zoom, and things would move and change. I nearly gave up quite a few times, especially after I would get so close, and could make out the eye, but it was still so blurry.

I was shooting hooked up to my computer, so I could see the images a few seconds after taking them on the big screen (since I of course wasn't behind the camera), and after one shot I just knew wasn't going to work, I saw this sitting up there. Sure, it wasn't anywhere near perfect, the eye was cut off a bit and I wanted a bit closer zoom. But it was sharp and clear, and so very detailed. And you could see the true colors of my eye, the dual blue and yellow/gold that makes my eye appear green or turquoise. After some nice grungy editing, I came away with a photo I am quite happy with. If anything for how damn hard it was to take xD
